Dr. West has been working in the fields of Surface Characterisation and Materials testing for over twenty-five years.
His research experience covers industrial sectors such as paints, packaging, inks, polymers and medical implant failure. His particular specialisations lie in the areas of surface contamination and coatings failure where he has worked with a wide range of techniques to identify the sources and causes of surface modification and contamination.

After completing an honours degree in physical sciences at Edinburgh University, Mrs. West gained scientific experience at the UKAEA Culham Laboratory before leaving to gain administrative experience in a variety of situations.
